Music Alley Kicks Off Second Season

As the combined harmony of a fiddle and acoustic guitar drift out across Bridgewater’s Town Common, a passerby pauses to listen at the black arch alongside the historic Town Hall.  Inside, a woman bounces her knee in time to the music, while others pull out their smartphones and hit Record.  Nearby, children are dancing and skipping around the paved stones, in front of a makeshift pizza stand where Bruno’s Pizzeria is selling discounted slices.

It’s hard to believe Music Alley, so full of life and vitality, was once abandoned, overgrown, and littered with trash.   Last year, a small group of visionaries spent over a month constructing and transforming the bleak landscape into a public space for the community to come together and appreciate music.  The inaugural season was so successful that performers began requesting to book time for the following year.

I think it’s pretty wonderful to have a nice solid structure now that we’re into year two , says Christopher Frye, the President of Music Alley’s Board of Directors.  I think that’s even better because we get to continue to do what we’re all passionate about for the community.”

Matt York opened and Sparrow Blue opened Music Alley’s second season on Thursday, June eighth. “We’ve never been here before, said Katy Boc of Sparrow Blue, but really love the idea of the community coming together in a space to show music.”

Now incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Friends of Music Alley exists to provide support and coordination of performers and others while using Music Alley. It works in partnership with the Town of Bridgewater which owns and maintains its infrastructure, and holds the entertainment license.  Like many on the Board, Frye is a musician himself. “I just love music so much that any chance to bring it out of the woodwork to people I will just endorse that and do everything I can for it.”

Ann Cavanaugh and Billy Mulligan take the stage on Thursday, June 15.  For more information visit
